Wedding Pride Downsized

I promised my mom and dad to keep my wedding spending to a minimum. I have
learned now never to make promises you can’t keep. Every move I make takes
more out of my budgeted allotment. I set the cap on my allowance, not my
parents. They told me it couldn’t be done for my estimation. I am trying
my best to prove them wrong. To make up extra money for the wedding I have
increased my work hours. This has been really hard because going to
school, working double and planning for a wedding is taking every bit of my
energy. I don’t know how long I can keep up with this pace, but now it is
a challenge to maintain my pride.

My fiance and I are biting at each others throats all of the time. The
stress and tension can be cut with a knife. I don’t have enough time to
sit and visit or be as we once were. Every time we take a night for the
movies or dinner, all I can think about is how much I could be getting done
towards the ceremony or how much money I could be making if I had of taken
that shift at work. He is getting really frustrated with me. Recently one
of my friends saw him out with another girl at lunch. According to her he
seemed to just be in a friendly mode. I was crushed but could easily
understand why he would do it. I wouldn’t want to be with me either since
I have turned into this female monster.

I truly believe I should swallow my pride, downsize the wedding from the
dress to the wedding favors and tell my parents they were right. I can’t
maintain my first promise to keep the allowance that I first estimated. I
suppose admitting you were wrong is the first step to maturity.…

Picking The Wedding Items

The invitations are mailed. The favors are all ordered and now we have the wedding decorations to consider. We have been giving this a lot of thought. As we have made our way through many magazines and stores that sell wedding items and even searching online we have been putting together an arsenal of items that we really liked. We would like to include them in our wedding design if we can. We know we want to get married outdoors. We are both outdoor people and being close to nature is a huge factor we wanted in our wedding. We would love to get married in the woods but that would cause too much hardship for some of our family members that are not nimble on their feet! We have a huge field picked out that is beside the church. We will be able to use the church for dressing because it is so close. The field will be perfect for our wedding and then the reception will be under a tent on the same field. The dinners will be plated and brought out to the tables because it is a large wedding. We felt that would eliminate some of the clusters of people because it will be more organized. When you are planning a large event you have to have order to it or it becomes a bottle neck of confusion. Because everyone will be dressed in really nice dresses we felt having the reception outdoors means we have to have a covered area. For that reason we have a huge ten rented that will have skylights. It is so pretty when it is set up. You can enjoy the outdoors and yet it is cozy as well.…

Wedding Changes

It is hard to make Steve see things in his head. He is one of those people that has to have it all drawn out for him. He is really not a creative person at all. There is nothing wrong with that. I am in the design business and I see people like that all of the time. That is why there are creative people, such as myself, there to make changes. We have visions that lay it all out for us to see before it is all executed. We have changed our original wedding plans from a formal church wedding to a wedding on our new farm. We are both excited. The problem was I had ordered everything formal. I did not want or need to have two sets of wedding decorations. I solved this problem by selling our formal decorations to one of my friends. She is getting married next year and had helped me pick out many of the formal decorations because she loved them too. She was thrilled to buy them from me. That opened us up to planning a wedding that was all about the farm. We would have BBQ for our reception with all of the trimmings. We would be dressed in casual dress for the reception and my wedding gown would not be floor length. I can not wait to get every thing we need for this wedding. It is going to be quaint and cute. The best part is it will be filled with love and laughter which is what I wanted most of all. It will be held on our farm where we will be spending the rest of our lives together. There is nothing better than that.…

Let’s Take The Wedding Back To The Drawing Board

Having to downsize my wedding plans was a crushing blow. I realized that pushing so hard to achieve my goal was causing too much friction and I was not enjoying what should be one of the best moments of my life. I sat back down to the drawing table, as mom and dad put it, and began all over. Mom was a saint. She began researching how I could achieve what I wanted within a more realistic realm. At first I was skeptical. She began pointing out how many of the wedding decorations could be hand made. We could change the venue totally and have an outdoor wedding. It would be much more relaxed and the surroundings could help be part of the decorations. I wondered where she was planning. Naturally mom had a place on the agenda. I went to the city gardens with her and talked with the directors that were on site. It was perfect! There was a beautiful site with a nice pond which could be crossed during the ceremony. Swans, pond, cherry trees and black bamboo, who could ask for more? They even agreed to let us rent the inside patio area which is covered with a gazebo style covering for very little money.

Within a few months we had changed our plans, had mom’s old wedding dress cut off into a tea length dress which turned out perfectly and was more adaptable to the park surroundings and put together the reception with handmade table arrangements which were simple but elegant. My fiance and I spent more time together planning it and in the end it was the wedding of
my dreams. A new beginning all the way around was all we needed.…

Shells For Favors

It has been at least three years since my daughter had her wedding. For her wedding favors she gave seashells that had the most beautiful fragrance. Her wedding was a beach themed wedding so the shells were a perfect idea to follow her theme. I have them placed in my guest bathroom because I have a blue color theme in that room which went well with the shells. They still have the same fragrance they had three years ago. I read an article saying you can store them in a sealed bag for a few months and they will once again retain their fragrance. If they ever stop having this scent I will do that to save them but as of yet they are still just as fresh as they were three years ago. I was glad that my daughter thought to give us one of her favors when she passed them out. I did not think about it as we packaged them but she made certain everyone had some. Each time I see them I am reminded of what a special daughter I have and how proud I am of both of them for having such a strong marriage. I am certain they have disagreements but to see them together you would think they never disagree on anything. As a parent I could not ask for anything more. I think part of their strength is they made certain they were ready to commit to each other before they were married. They both took it seriously and committed to each other for a lifetime.…
